California Fashion Foundation’s annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon, held at the California Market Center on April 30th, honored future fashion designers and innovators with scholarship awards. The following sponsors presented scholarships: AIMS 360, Betty Baumgardner Foundation, California Apparel News, California Market Center, CIT Financial Services, Cooper Design Space, Fineman West & Company, Gen Art, Karen Kane, KWDZ Manufacturing, Lectra, Love Barbara from Barbara Lesser, STC-QST, Stony Apparel, SwatFame, Tukatech, UPS and YMA National Fashion Scholarship Fund.
After networking and previewing the winning designs, attendees enjoyed lunch, short speeches, and the award presentations. Ilse Metchek, President of the California Fashion Association, welcomed everyone, followed by the keynote speaker, Annabelle Lee, Designer and Founder of See You Monday, who talked about “The Road Ahead”. Keri Ingvarsson, Owner of Gen Art, presented “A New Home for Design Entrepreneurs” and Tammy Chatkin, Executive Vice President of 24Seven, shared advice on “Entering the Job Market.”
The award and scholarship presentations were emceed by Ann Davis of Eclat Textiles. Ram Sareen, President of Tukatech, presented a professional Tukatech Software package to a selected student and Henry Cherner of AIMS360 presented four student winners with a certificate for an AIMS certification course. In addition to the scholarships, each student received a gift bag and book from The Fashion Bookstore.
